Courtney Conlogue and Kanoa Igarashi Claim 2018 Vans US Open Wins

Courtney Conlogue USA and Kanoa Igarashi of Japan, have won the 2018 Vans US Open Of Surfing Championships presented by Swatch in The World Surf League – Women’s Championship Tour and Men’s Qualifying Series divisions respectively.

Conlogue’s dream of winning the esteemed US Open Title as a contender was realized after taking down current Jeep Rankings Leader Stephanie Gilmour from Australia in  amazing fashion. Conlogue’s win also comes after a sidelining foot injury sustained earlier this season.

The six time world champion Gilmour, world number 8 Sally Fitzgibbons and world number 9 Nikki Van Dijk also made the last eight of the prestigious event in Huntington Beach after Saturdays third round action. Whether your’e matching up against a top seed or battling against a lower seed, all the battles are so close former 2011 US Open Of Surfing champion Sally Fitzgibbon said. You have to bring your best surfing, to the events.

Following a captivating performance from Conlogue, fellow hometown hero Igarashi fed off the crowds energy and delivered an incredible final showdown against Griffin Colapinto USA. This marks back to back US Open victories, since one of Huntington Beach’s most revered surfers Brett Simpson of the USA did so in 2008 and 2009. The day belonged to Igarashi after a phenomenal run to the final, retaining his composure after a tough finals day draw.
