The World Surf League has announced this week the Founders Cup Of Surfing presented by Michelob Ultra Pure Gold, a historic region versus region teams event featuring a cross section with some of the best surfers in the world to be held at Surf Ranch in Lemoore, California, USA from May 5th – 6th, 2018.
Five teams from USA, Brazil, Australia, Europe and the Rest Of The World – Made up of Men’s and Women’s surfers from the elite World Surf League Championship Tour, will compete over the two day event at the World Class man made wave venue at Surf Ranch in Lemoore, California. The competition will be hosted against a festival backdrop respecting the culture of surfing, music, art, food, beverage and special guests will also be in attendance on site.
The Surf Ranch facility, which was revealed on- line to the surfing public in December 2015, boasts a 700 yard high performance bi – directional wave featuring barrel sections and sections to turn. Primarily existing as a testing facility, the Lemoore site has spent the past two years researching the wave technology under the guidance of 11 – time World Surf League Champion, Kelly Slater of the USA, and feedback from visiting World Surf League surfers. A private test event during September 2017 proved very successful, paving the way for The Founders Cup Of Surfing to be held in May 2018 and it will be the first time the public will be allowed onto the grounds.
The Founders Cup Of Surfing will feature Men and Women competing alongside one another in a team format. The teams will be made up of three men and two women from each region.
The first event of The 2018 World Surf League Championship Tour will be The Quicksilver and Roxy Pro held on the Gold Coast in Australia from March 11th – March 22nd, 2018.
