Scotty James 22, kept his push to become Australia’s first snowboarder to win gold at The Winter Olympics, by beating all time great American Shaun White to take out the World Cup half pipe event in Korea over the weekend.
The tallest man in the field James decided coming into this competition to move what has become his signature trick, a backside 12 – two off axis flips with three spins – to the beginning of his run, where it would be scored higher with the judges. He reeled off three consecutive double corks on his first three hits in a run, that he later described as, one of the best of his life. It was really clean and big and the tricks were technical and all the hard work came down to this he said.
James stared down the American dual Games Gold Medal Winner – White, to snatch victory on his last run in the half pipe and with it the overall World Cup Title.
It was a pretty amazing day.
It caps off an exceptional start to the year for Scotty James who also beat Shaun White and 2014 Olympic Champion Iouri Podlatchikou to win the X Games title in Aspen, Colorado last month.
